Common questions
Short answers to what people ask most when they first meet Zi Wei Dou Shu.
These are the questions newcomers ask most often, whatever their age or culture.
- Is my future fixed?
- No. Zi Wei Dou Shu speaks about tendencies and timing. Your choices, effort and relationships shape what actually happens. Even traditional readers use a chart to prepare, not to give up.
- Is it science?
- No. Controlled studies of astrology have not found predictions better than chance, and no mechanism is known. Its value lies in being a cultural tradition and a language for reflection, which is how Astravia uses it.
- Twins share a birth hour. Do they share a chart?
- Often, yes: the chart is set by the lunar date and double-hour, and by gender, which turns the ten-year chapters. Some schools adjust the chart for the second twin; Astravia does not. Twins are a good reminder that a chart describes possibilities, not a whole person.
- I don’t know my birth time.
- The hour changes the chart a lot, so a guess can mislead. If you know a range, try each possible hour and see which description of the Life palace fits best, and hold the result lightly.
- Why do different apps give different charts?
- Schools differ on details: when the year begins, how to treat a leap month or a birth after 11 pm, true solar time, and a few transformation tables. Astravia lists its choices in the calculation notes so you can compare.
- Which year is mine: January 1 or Chinese New Year?
- In Zi Wei Dou Shu the year changes at the lunar new year. If you were born in January or early February, your chart year may be the previous one.
- Can my chart change?
- Your birth chart stays the same for life. What moves is time: each ten-year chapter and each year lights up different palaces.
